HTML and Web Page Development

There are dozens of commercially available programs that will allow you to develop your Web site just as you would layout and advertisement on a page. These are called WYSIWYG programs. WYSIWYG stands for What You See Is What You Get, which is an apt description of what these programs do.

You do not need to know HTML to build your Web site, however, it’s still good to have a basic knowledge of HTML if you are going to use one of these programs. Site generation tools can be fickle. Sometimes they generate messy code or will not allow you to do something you want. In these instances, knowing how to reprogram that part of your site yourself will give you the ability to fix your page without fighting the program for hours. Many of these site generation software packages include an HTML editor. This enables you to go into the code the program generates and make your own changes.

If you have no desire to learn HTML and are not quite ready to spend a lot of money on developing your Web site, page generation software is a good choice for you. It is impossible to cover all the features of all the programs available, but we’ll try to give you a good basic review of what is available, what you can expect it to do, and how much you can expect it to cost you.

Using HTML page generation software has a lot of plusses. They are quick to learn, allow great degrees of graphic manipulation and placement control, automatically check your links within your site to make sure they all connect properly, and many of them even contain ftp software to help you upload and download your site and its elements. The major drawbacks, of course, are that they often create bizarre code that would take even a professional developer time to debug, and the more features included in the software package the more it is going to cost you. But even the most expensive development package still costs less than hiring an outside development firm. If you want to get started yourself and see how things go before hiring someone to design a site, page development software is for you.

Below is a list of some of these packages, Click on the titles for the review of these software.
